I absolutely love a bold red lip, it’s such a classic and always adds a bit of oomph to your look. Whenever I decide to rock a red lipstick from my collection I take various steps to ensure it looks the best it can be.
First off I like to prep my lips by using one of Lush’s lip scrubs. They do exactly what they say on the tin and completely exfoliate your lips of any dry skin. Every time I use this my lips are left feeling ridiculously soft and smooth. Once exfoliated I like to apply a lip balm to make sure my lips stay hydrated and make application super easy. My lip balm of choice is this strawberry lip butter from The Body Shop as it’s one of my faves – but any will do!
For me lining the lips is an absolute must with a red lip. A lip liner not only stops the lipstick from bleeding around the edges but also increases longevity. My favourite is Mac’s ‘Cherry’, but Essence do a great alternative at a fraction of the cost so it’s great for those on a budget. I like to apply my lipliner all over the lips and then follow with my chosen red lipstick. This is ‘Blake’s Pure Red’ from Loreal and it’s easily one of my favourites! It’s such a beautiful shade that would suit most skin tones and the formula is incredible. For a drugstore lipstick it’s seriously amazing. (and who doesn’t love Blake Lively?!)
For me personally a red lip just wouldn’t be the same without matching nails, and this Barry M nail paint in the shade ‘Red’ is the perfect pairing. When it comes to my eye makeup, although I do like experimenting, my go to eye look whenever I wear red lipstick always involves golden and nude tones. I think together they look gorgeous and the subtle golden shades really make your lips the star of the show – without being too boring.
